Ella Martha Hanson was born July 22, 1906, on a homestead near Killiam, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of George and Emma Anderson Hanson. At the age of 3 ½ she moved with her family to a farm near Westbrook, MN. She began her education in the country school next to her parents’ home. She continued her education throughout high school and Bible college.
Ella married Rev. Cornelius H. Peters on November 14, 1930 at Westbrook, MN. She enjoyed assisting him as he pastored Baptist churches in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and as he was an administrator at Northwest Baptist Homes in Charles City, IA and in Minneapolis. The couple semi-retired in Pharr, TX, where they were associated with the Mexican Mission Ministries. In 1974 they retired to Corwith, IA. She fulfilled her lifelong mission to be a help and encouragement to others.
Following the death of her husband in 1985, Ella came to live in Marengo. In 1997 she moved to Rose Haven Nursing Home where she resided until her death. While she remained a member of the Corwith and Renwick Baptist churches, she attended the Victor Baptist Church, Victor, IA after moving to Marengo.
Ella is survived by her son, William and wife Edith of Marengo; two grandchildren, Kyle of Marengo and Thea Bray and husband Scott of Ainsworth, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother James Hanson.
Ella’s life was lengthened and enriched by the expert and loving care she received from everyone at Rose Haven Nursing Home and Amenity Hospice and from Dr. John Rachow. The faithful visits from Pastor Dan Andrews and ministry from Marne Risdon encouraged her spiritually.
