| Leo Joachim Possehl, age 89 of Marengo, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a sudden illness. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2006, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Pastor Doug Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Survivors include his wife Donna; five daughters, all of Marengo, Carole Denzler (Jerry), Joanne Slockett, Connie Boerjan (Charlie), Dianne Stephan (Harry) and Cindy Ballard (Bruce); ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, Missy (Slockett) and Jeff Disterhoft, Ally and Nate; Niki (Denzler) and Greg Kearney, Justin and Courtney; Kim (Slaymaker) and Mark Loffer, Bryce; Suzette (Slaymaker) and Toby Ehrle, Ella Mae and Hayden; Chris and Tonya Stephan, Tristan and Dylan; Brent Bral; Shawn and Tammy Stephan, Devin; Luke and Shannon Slockett, Brynlee; Darren Slaymaker; Jon Smith; and a sister, Mildred McMann. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl Possehl and one in infancy, and three sisters, Leona Vogt, Leta Lillie, and Florence Uthoff, and a son-in-law, Roy Bral.
Leo Joachim Possehl was born September 30, 1916 in rural Marengo, the son of Charles and Bertha (Kruse) Possehl. He was baptized in 1916 and confirmed in 1929 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, rural Marengo. He received his education in the Iowa County schools, and married Donna Wilma Hacker on February 6, 1941 at St. Martin’s. He farmed in Iowa County until 1997 when he retired and moved into Marengo.
Leo was a wonderful husband, and father, and a loving grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. |
