| Donald L. Roggentine, age 82, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Conroy with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his children, Dixie Kenyon (Don) of Mena, AK, Penny Stephan of Marengo, Roger Roggentine of Middle Amana, Donna Murley (Lon) of South Amana, Cindy Murley (Collin) of Marengo and Kelcy Jasper (Laverne) of East Amana; fourteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1993, his parents, and a son Russell “Rusty” in 1970.
Donald Leo Roggentine was born in 1925 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the only child of Calvin “Kelly” Roggentine and Freeda E. Jacobs Roggentine. He received his early education in the Marengo schools and attended high school in Oakland, CA. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and Middle East Campaign medal. He married Alice Iona Misel on August 1, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed in Iowa County for many years and Donald was the owner and operator of the Old Style Tavern in Marengo from 1955 to 1971. He was a lifetime member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76, the Williamsburg VFW Post #8797, Williamsburg D.A.V., and was a member of First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy. He enjoyed carpentry work and playing Bingo.
