Everett A. Sandersfeld, age 90 of Marengo, formerly of South Amana, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 6, 2009, Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy with Rev. Gary Sears officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, June 5, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to Lutheran Interparish School (LIS), Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy or Amenity Hospice.
Everett is survived by his wife Beata of Marengo, a son Tom Sandersfeld of Williamsburg; a daughter Kim Knight (Jeff) of Tempe, AZ; and seven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Reno and two sisters, Barbara Sandersfeld and Cora Sandersfeld.
Everett August Sandersfeld was born April 9, 1919 in Hilton Township, rural South Amana, Iowa, the son of Fred William Sandersfeld and Emma Amelia Steinmetz Sandersfeld. He received his education in the Lutheran parochial schools. Everett married Beata Marie Marita Weiss on October 16, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Victor, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon returning from the service, Everett farmed for many years, retiring in 1985.
Everett was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy where he served as an elder, was ESR president, served on the School Board and Finance Board, and also sang in the church choir. He was vice-president of the AAL County Board for 10 years. Everett was a member of the Williamsburg VFW Post #8797 and the Marengo American Legion Post #76. He was also a member of the Iowa County Historical Society and the Farm Bureau. |
