M. Mae Schumacher, age 93, died Saturday morning, June 25, 2005 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, with Father Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 27, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by five sons, Ronald Schumacher and Deeann Wilhelm of Marengo, Norman (Lorraine) Schumacher of St. Louis, MO, Larry (Gloria) Schumacher of Marengo, James (Kathy) Schumacher of Cedar Rapids, Edward (Gloria) Schumacher of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Margaret Whittaker of Lenexa, KS; twelve grandchildren, Connie (John) Pegump, Kevin (Therese) Schumacher, Jeff Schumacher, Mark (Shelly) Schumacher, Michelle Schumacher, Vance (Adrienne) Schumacher, Serena (Erik) Brueggemeyer, Angi Schumacher, Brandon Schumacher, Chris (Suzanne) Schumacher, Tonya (Shawn) Samuelson; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Helen Hartin of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo on April 9, 1987, an infant son, Thomas Carroll, a brother Thomas Hartin Jr. and a sister Alice Misbach.

Margaret Mae Schumacher was born May 1, 1912 on a farm in Hilton Township, the daughter of Thomas and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Panknen Hartin. Margaret received her education in the Iowa County Schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1929. She married Leo F. Schumacher on September 24, 1932 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Marengo Hospital as an aide for 3 years. Margaret was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Merry Mixers. She enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cards and making craft ornaments.
