Harry E. Simpson, age 68 of Brooklyn, Iowa died Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the New Beginnings Church, Brooklyn, with Pastor Justin Wetering officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Harry is survived by his wife Kathy Simpson; four daughters, Machelle Simpson (Mike Lovell) of Clive, Crystal Orndorff (Philip) of Carlisle, Jodi Simpson of Brooklyn, and April Austin (Nathan) of Sweeny, TX; fourteen grandchildren, Daniel Fisher, Patricia Peterson (Scott), Thomas Baldwin, Ashely Baldwin, Josh Lovell, Corwyn Lovell, Alicia Orndorff, Whitney Orndorff, Alexis Thompson, Lilly Austin, Jayden Austin, Carissa Austin, Jonathan Austin and Jackson Austin; and a great-grandchild, Logan Peterson. Also surviving is a brother Walter Simpson (Bonnie).
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Larry Simpson, and a sister Sandy McFarland.
Harry Eugene Simpson was born July 5, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Harry Simpson and Nina Putney Marinus. He was raised by Nina and Henry Wayne Marinus and attended the Des Moines area schools and Altoona High School, graduating in 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, from 1964-1968. He was employed as a spray painter with Farmhand in Grinnell. Harry married Kathy Clark on August 2, 1975 in Runnells, Iowa. The couple resided in Brooklyn. He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post # 294. Harry enjoyed woodworking in his free time. He also enjoyed singing on the radio as a child, and walking his dog “Peanut”.
