Maxine Frieda Slaymaker, age 88 of Marengo, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, Iowa following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 8, 2009 St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
She is survived by her son Darold of Marengo; three grandchildren, Kimberly Loffer, Suzette Ehrle, and Darren Slaymaker; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Loffer, Hayden Ehrle and Ella Ehrle; four brothers, Orlin Kurth and Bill Kurth, both of Marengo, Lyle Kurth of Robins, and Bob Kurth of Riverside, CA; and two sisters, Naomi Krakow and Dorothy Krakow, both of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Gerald.
Maxine Frieda Kurth was born August 14, 1920 in Marengo, Iowa the daughter of Verna William Kurth and Florence Kanke Kurth. She attended the Marengo schools and married Gerald Slaymaker on December 18, 1938 in Marengo, Iowa. He died February 25, 1979. Besides being a mother and homemaker, Maxine was employed as a shipping clerk at Amana Refrigeration for 28 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo and the Ladies Aide.
