| Rosemary Thompson, age 80 of Brooklyn, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at her home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Rev. Daniel Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 30, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the Grinnell Hospice.
She is survived by three sons, Rodney of Vinton, Tom and wife Sue of Brooklyn and Jeff and wife Ranae of Amana; a daughter, Debbii Olson of Brooklyn, 5 grandchildren, Crystal Klein of Brooklyn, Anna Thompson and J.J. Thompson of Amana, Tommii Olson of Brooklyn and Gerrii Green and husband Jay of Ottumwa; and three great -grandchildren, Taytin Chamberlin, and Clair and Ella Green. Also surviving is a sister JoAnn Boyd and husband Lyle of New Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, and three sisters, Betty Zoll, Marlene Heishman and Darlene Hoover.
Rosemary Walter was born March 20, 1929 in Mendota, Missouri, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys Newman Walter. She was the second of five girls. Rosemary graduated from Montezuma High School in 1949, and attended Americana Academy of Beauty in Des Moines. She worked at Opal’s Beauty Shop in Montezuma. Rosemary married Gerald William Thompson on March 28, 1951 in New Sharon, Iowa. The couple moved to Brooklyn and she operated Rosemary’s Beauty Shop from her home for many years. She retired in 1990 and worked as a waitress at the Star Inn. She also was a caregiver for many years.
Rosemary was a member of Victor Baptist Church where she and Jerry raised their children to know the Lord as their personal savior. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
