Richard D. Trumpold, age 72, of Middle Amana, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital of brain cancer. Funeral Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Eleanor Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Middle Amana Community Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Pam Lockhart of Cedar Rapids and Cheri Kirk (James) also of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Trumpold (Janice) of Marengo, and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Trumpold of Middle Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clifford and John and a sister, Dorothy Graesser, and a son-in-law Robert Lockhart.

Richard Donald Trumpold was born November 7, 1935 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Maria Buerkin Trumpold. He received his education in the Amana schools. He served in the Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict and then served in the U.S. Army for two years. Richard married Marilyn Blessing on June 6, 1954 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed Quaker Oats from 1957 to 1991. He was a supervisor from 1980 until retiring. Following his retirement, he worked at the Amana Furniture Shop in Amana.

Richard enjoyed woodworking, playing pool, watching pro wrestling and the Chicago Cubs. He traveled to Germany twice. Richard spent many hours planting roses and tending their blooms. He also constructed a fish pond at his home in Middle Amana. For the last ten years, he spent the winters in Texas. During these winters, he was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, a member of the Hot Pepper Organization and volunteered during the hockey and basketball games at the Arena in Texas. Richard was a member of the Amana Church and the Young Mans Bureau.
