Lina Trumpold Turner, age 99, died Friday evening, May 5, 2006 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services:10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Morris Hurd and Dr. Derek Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, May 8, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by a son, Lewis and wife Allene of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Doris Fry and husband Gene of Marengo; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Turner of Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, two sons, William, Jr. and Ben, a daughter-in-law, Bette, her parents, three sisters, Ann Dyrland, Pauline Schaefer and one in infancy, and four brothers, William, Ernest, Carl, and Elmer Trumpold.

Lina Trumpold was born June 27, 1906 in East Amana, the daughter of Bernhard and Lina Bahndorf Trumpold. She received her education in the East Amana Schools. Lina worked in the communal kitchen in her home. She married William O. Turner on January 26, 1924 in Marengo, Iowa. He died in 1955. Besides a homemaker, Lina was employed by the Marengo Memorial Hospital in the dietary department from 1956 until 1975 when she retired. She enjoyed knitting and crochet-tatting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Lina was an active volunteer. She was a charter member of R.S.V.P., and a lifetime member of the Marengo Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered over 6700 hours at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marengo for over 50 years, and was active with the United Methodist Women. She also received the Iowa County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award.
