Robert E. Uhlmann, age 66, of Williamsburg, died Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2009 at his home from complications of pancreatic cancer. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Williamsburg with Rev. James Parks officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday, February 23, 2009 at the church. Memorials may be contributed to the Williamsburg Public Library, Iowa City Hospice, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Williamsburg, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Carol; a daughter Dawn Ealy and husband Jeff of Iowa City, three sons, Brian Uhlmann of Denver, CO, Steven Uhlmann of Coralville, and Jason Uhlmann of Mason City; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Blake Ealy; a brother Richard Uhlmann and wife Sonya of Williamsburg; and a sister Rachel Ehrman and husband Russell of South Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Uhlmann.

Robert Edgar Uhlmann was born June 5, 1942 in Williamsburg, Iowa the son of Edgar Paul Uhlmann and Johanna Louise Maas Uhlmann. He received his early education in the St. Paul Lutheran School in Williamsburg and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1960. Robert attended Parsons College and the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. He was united in marriage to Carol Kay Shogren on August 28, 1965 at Christ Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, IA. Robert owned and operated Uhlmann Funeral Home and Ambulance Service and operated Uhlmann Furniture in Williamsburg for many years. He served on the Williamsburg City Council and as Fire Chief of the Williamsburg Fire Department. Following his retirement in 1989, Robert assisted other funeral homes and directors in the area. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors’ Association and the Iowa Funeral Directors’ Association.
