Harold James Weldon, age 77 of Parnell, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 12, 2011, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North English, with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Military Honors will follow the service. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 11, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in North English where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 P.M. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell at a later date. Memorials may be contributed to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

Harold is survived by two sons, Greg of Parnell and Paul (Jennifer) also of Parnell; two daughters, Patti Schropp (Larry) of Parnell and Joan Sieren (Jeff) of Wellman; five grandchildren, Sara and Jeremy Schropp, Stacie White, and Kate and Jacob Weldon; and a great-grandson, Logan White. Also surviving are a brother Clement (Audrey) of North English and a sister Rita Murphy of Parnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Cain Weldon, his wife Marjorie in 2008, two brothers, John and Dean, and a sister Margaret Hanson.

Harold James Weldon was born May 24, 1933 in Parnell, Iowa, the son of John and Anna Cain Weldon.  He graduated from Parnell High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Japan. Harold married Marjorie Harney on November 16, 1955 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Holbrook. He was an electrician in the Parnell area for many years, then owned and operated the Weldon DX in Parnell. He then worked for Shay Electric and Amana Refrigeration before going to General Mills as a maintenance superintendant. Harold enjoyed reading and puzzles in his free time. He was well known for his commitment to Parnell and his generosity towards the community. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor.
