Stuart Wendler, 59, of High Amana, Iowa died July 20, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, due to complications of diabetes. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23, at 10:00 A.M. at the Middle Amana Community Church, in Middle Amana with Elder Betsy Momany officiating. Burial will be in the High Amana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, July 22, at the Middle Amana Church. Memorials may be directed to the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting with arrangements.

Stuart Fred Wendler was born to Glenn and Mary Jane Seifert Wendler on September 25, 1954. He lived his entire life in High Amana, with the exception of four years spent in Homestead, Iowa. He attended the Amana Schools and graduated from Amana High School with the class of 1973. In 1972, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that he was very proud of. Following high school he began working for the Iowa County Secondary Road Department, where he operated a road grader maintaining gravel roads. He retired from Iowa County in 2009 after 34 years of service.

He was united in marriage to Wendy Ackerman on June 21,1975 in Amana, Iowa. They divorced in 1994 but remained friends. He was a member of the Amana Church Society and the Masonic Saint Clair Lodge # 164 of Fairfax.
 
Stuart loved being outdoors in any weather, and especially enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He enjoyed visiting with people, whether strangers or friends. Recently he received the most joy out of spending time with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his daughter Maggie (Percy) Fields of Iowa City; son Jacob (Natalie) Wendler of Johnston; granddaughters Isabella Wendler of Iowa City, and Cora Wendler of Johnston; brother Guy (Terri) Wendler of Cedar Rapids; sister Susy Wendler of West Des Moines; nephews Peter, Ted, and Charlie Wendler and Will and Kurt Reihmann, and aunt and uncle, Janet and Carroll Zuber. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his beloved and faithful canine companion, Sadie.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital for the extraordinary care that was given to Stuart during these very difficult last weeks.
