Clarence E. Young, age 85 of Homestead, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Colonial Manor of Amana following an brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Homestead with Rev. Wayne Woolery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, February 16, 2009 at the church. Memorials may be contributed to Lutheran Interparish Schools, Williamsburg or St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Esther; his step children, Robert Trimpe and wife Rita of Williamsburg, Diane Von Ahsen and husband Gene of Homestead, Beverly Arp and husband Terry of Oxford and Dean Trimpe and wife Linda of Williamsburg; thirteen grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Burnita Young of Solon, and brother-and sister-in-law Henry and Margy Seifert of Homestead and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Bertha Seifert Young in 1985, two brothers, Alfred and Herbert and twin sisters in infancy.

Clarence Emil Young was born August 4, 1923 in Iowa City, the son of Emil and Minnie Pfister Young. He attended Trinity Lutheran School, Conroy, Iowa. Clarence served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the medical corps. He achieved the rank of tech sergeant and received the good conduct medal. Upon returning to the states, he was employed by the Amana Society Farms as a farm hand and following retirement drove truck. Clarence married Esther G. Jahlas Trimpe on February 18, 1989 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead.

Clarence was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
